Nancy Proctor Cruden, 72, died at home in Isle of Palms, SC on December 29, 2020. She faced her battle with a rare cancer with the same passion she possessed during her lifetime.
Nancy's family and faith were the center of her life. She was married to Thomas B. Cruden, M.D. for 50 years. She was blessed with 3 daughters: Ann Elizabeth Cruden Barr (Sean) of Maryland, Katherine Proctor Cruden Charlier (Christopher) of Montana, and Gracelyn Howell Cruden Barlowe (Clark) of Oregon, two sisters, Elizabeth Blackmon Proctor of New Jersey, and Susan Hicks Proctor McKain of Nebraska, one nephew, three grandsons and numerous cousins.
She was predeceased in death by her parents, Robert Edward Proctor Lt. Col USAF and Elizabeth Blackmon Proctor
Nancy graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1970 with a B.S. degree in Nursing, and from MUSC in 1990 with an M.S. degree in Nursing Administration, and a post-graduate degree in Parish Nursing in 1993. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society.
Nancy always believed in caring for the whole patient, physically, mentally, spiritually, and applied these principles to herself as well, especially during her illness with leiomyosarcoma. She especially enjoyed her dogs and puppies, traveling, RV camping, knitting and crocheting and especially quilting (in which she excelled) and revealed her great artistic talents. She enjoyed flowers and asked that she receive them while she was living rather than afterward. She was a Presbyterian and a Lifetime member of Girl Scouts USA and a member of the Juliette Gordon Low Society.
Burial will be a private graveside service at Laurelwood Cemetery in Rock Hill, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Leiomyosarcoma Foundation, 2843 Grand River Ave. Room N-230, East Lansing, MI 48823.
