Mimi Wooten Bruening, 73, died Tuesday.
Born in Charleston on June 6, 1950, she lived with zeal as a wife, mother, sister, friend, singer, dancer, piano player, artist, student and teacher.
A graduate of St. Andrews High (1968) and the College of Charleston (1972), she was married for nearly 41 years to Bill Bruening (The Citadel, Class of ‘71). As Bill rose to lieutenant colonel in the Air Force, his postings took them around the world before they settled in Niceville, Fla.
Mimi, who did graduate work at the University of Texas in Austin, was a devoted public-school teacher. She took special pride in her work on the math faculty at Niceville High.
Widowed in 2013, Mimi moved to Mount Pleasant in 2016. She is survived by her son Stuart Bruening of Marietta, Ga., his wife Devin and their son Jackson, daughter Delaney and son Coleman; her daughter Alexis Stuckey of Palm City, Fla., her husband Bill Stuckey and their sons Cooper and Maguire; and her brother Frank Wooten and his wife Teresa Key Wooten of Mount Pleasant.
Mimi made many dear friends through the decades, including sweet members of the Memory Care staff at Shem Creek Health Center.
No local service is planned.
