Michael Wade Chapman

Michael Wade Chapman, 39, of Charleston, SC, beloved husband, best friend, and partner in crime to Alisa Michelle Chapman, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 3, 2017 – just days shy of his 40th birthday.

He was born July 14, 1977 in Baytown, TX to Stephen and Katherine Brochu Chapman, Jr. He and Alisa married March 27, 2015 in Mount Pleasant, SC.

He is survived by his wife, Alisa, his parents, Stephen and Kathy, two brothers, Andrew (Amanda Carerros) Chapman, and Nicholas Chapman, his brother-in-law, Jason Fournier, sister-in-law, Casey Fournier, his niece, Nya Chapman, nephew, Rylan Colacchio, mother-in-law, Dania (Gerald Bubb) Fournier), father-in-law, Mark Fournier, his grandfather, Carrol Brochu, and his step-grandmother, Marlene Chapman.

Michael was preceded in death by his two grandmothers, Marion Chapman and Marie Joan Brochu, and his grandfather, Stephen Chapman.

Michael loved music, his movies – so many movies, video games, outdoors (well, apart from the Charleston heat!) and sports. He and Alisa started touring all of the MLB stadiums and created fond memories together, something that she will continue on with him in his name and spirit until all 30 ballparks have been visited. His friends meant the world to him. Literally, the world. Nothing he wouldn’t do.

Without hesitation, he would give you the shirt off his back, his last dime. “Need to move something? You can use my truck”. An overtime worker when the bills pile up. He would pick you up and not let you down and cross oceans for the people he loved. There truly are not enough words.

In this sorrow, his wife and family find joy and comfort in knowing that Michael shared the gift of life with many others through organ and tissue donation. He will continue to live on in them. They cherish the thought that pieces of him will still be near.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017 at McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 2501 BEES FERRY ROAD, CHARLESTON. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. for visitation and gathering. At 2:00pm, the family invites all to share stories and special memories of Michael.

On Sunday, July 9, 2017, Alisa and the family invite you to join them in a celebration of his birthday at The Alley, 131 Columbus St, downtown Charleston. Food will be provided and friends are encouraged to celebrate memories with drinks and a toast honoring Mike.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Sharing Hope SC in Michael’s name. His selfless and caring personality will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.
