Michael Patrick Connolly

MMichael Patrick Connolly, 66, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015. He was born on Tuesday, November 22, 1949, in Cincinnati, OH, to the late Marion McElroy Connolly and the late William Connolly. Mike served in the US Navy from 1969 to 1975. He retired as a lieutenant from the City of Charleston Police Department, after serving for 32 years. He was a special education teacher at C.E. Williams Middle School for several years. Mike was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was the Charleston area Director of South Carolina Independent School Association, and an avid basketball official. He was also a member of the Palmetto Collegiate Umpire Association, the Charleston Umpire Association and American Legion Umpire Association. Mike was a volunteer coach for St. Andrew’s Park and Playground. He enjoyed golfing, supporting his wife at her tennis tournaments and his son’s baseball endeavors, and spending time with his family. His family will remember him as a patient man, and a wonderful husband and a tremendous father. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Hollie Tichenor Connolly of Charleston, SC; one son, Ryan William Connolly of Charleston, SC; one daughter, Christine Katherine Connolly Asher of Houston, TX; three brothers: Sean Connolly and his wife, Shana, of Cincinnati, OH; Kevin Connolly and his wife, Janet, of Cincinnati, OH and William “Bo” Connolly, and his wife, Teresa, of Cincinnati, OH; and two sisters: Sharon Connolly of Cincinnati, OH and Peggy MacGreagor of Cincinnati, OH. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 27, 2015, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd, Charleston, SC 29407, on Monday, December 28, 2015, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Gabriel Smith officiating.
