Michael W. Morgan

Michael Walter Morgan, 77, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. 

Born on February 2, 1947, in Oak Ridge, TN, Michael was the son of the late William Lewis Morgan and Jane Manhart Morgan. 

Affectionately known as Mike to most, Mikey to his closest friends, and Wally to his adoring grandchildren, he was loved by all. Mike graduated from Transylvania University where he met his wife of 54 years, Carol. Mike was an Army veteran who served in Vietnam. After military service, he pursued a career in accounting and distribution culminating in 22 years with Sears Roebuck & Co before retiring with Kohl’s Department Stores as Distribution Centers Vice President. Admired and respected by his employees, a road near a Kohl’s Distribution Center is named Mike Morgan Boulevard in his honor. 

An active individual, Mike loved to run including races and marathons, tennis, golf, neighborhood basketball games, and walking his beloved dogs. Mike engaged in hobbies of traveling, reading, and photography. A sports enthusiast, he was a passionate fan of the Tennessee Volunteers and the College of Charleston basketball team. Mike valued friendships and exemplified living through actions rather than words. Friends described Mike as unselfish and one of the nicest people.

He loved his wife unconditionally and cared about her happiness more than his own. Mike was a present and fun father and an even more fun grandfather. With his grandchildren, Wally helped change diapers, played in the backyard, cheered from the sidelines, did cannon balls off the boat, and loved watching them grow up. His smile will be deeply missed.

Michael is preceded in death by William Morgan (Father) and Jane Morgan (Mother) and Phillip Thibedeau (brother-in-law).

Michael is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol Carter Morgan, son, William Scott Morgan, daughter, Kelly Morgan Cook (Brian), grandchildren, Morgan (18), Anna (16), Michael (14), William (14), sister Molly Morgan Thibedeau, Nephews, Mark Raymond Thibedeau (Molly), and Justin Morgan Thibedeau (Asha).

A Celebration of Life Service and Reception will take place Saturday April 27^th beginning at 3pm with a Service at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 and following with a Reception at The Tides, Building 1, Cooper River Drive, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.
