Michael Edward Chambers

Michael Edward Chambers, professionally known as Mike Edwards, 53, of Charleston, SC, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Mike was born September 20, 1971, in Charleston, WV, and was the youngest child of Millard E. Chambers and Shirley A. (Mays) Chambers.

Mike was a graduate of George Washington High School (Charleston, WV), and found his passion for radio at the early age of 14 on a small community station in Pocahontas County, WV. His work in radio took him all over the country, in multiple markets, but ultimately his love for the Lowcountry made it home. Most famously known as the "Guy" on Mix 95.9 WMXZ-FM's "Two Girls and a Guy," Mike was wildly successful entertaining the community with Tanya and Brooke in the mornings since 2014. Mike was also a multi-year winner of "Charleston's Best Of" Radio Morning Show and Local Radio Personality awards. Additionally, he served as Program Director of WMXZ-FM Mix 95.9.

Mike's distinctive voice, infectious laugh, witty personality, and sarcastic humor were all second to none. He had the innate ability to make all of his listeners feel like family and he was able to impact many by being authentically himself, or "Just Plain Mike."

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; nephew-in-law Jeff Medley; and brother-in-law David Hall.

Mike is survived by sisters Beverly (Terry) Jarrett and Rebecca Hall; nieces Jessica Medley, Ashley (Dan) Heumann, Lindsay Angle, and Kati (Zach) Null; great nieces Abby, Tensley, Hadley, and Davi Jo; great nephews Austin, Emmett, and Dawson; special friends and co-hosts Tanya (Harry) Brown and Brooke (Jim) Ryan; beloved dog Gurlfrenn; and a host of listeners who will miss him every day.

A private celebration of life service will be held for family and close friends. A public celebration of life will be held at a later date and announced on WMXZ-FH Mix 95.9 and this website. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Charleston Animal Society (2455 Remount Rd, North Charleston, SC 29406) https://charlestonanimalsociety.org/ in Mike's honor.
