Melissa Jane Parker-Batts, 62, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2022, surrounded by her daughters and mother.
She was born April 2, 1960, in Queens, NY to the late Greene Smith Langford and Jacquelyne Sue Cuzzell (Wooley). After graduating from nursing school, she found her niche in the construction industry. She was employed with Gatch Electrical, where she thoroughly enjoyed the work she did.
Melissa was a dedicated and loving mother. Her life centered around her two daughters, referring to them as her “#1 and #2.” She loved spending time with them as there were always jokes, pranks, and immeasurable laughter. Melissa relished her role as a grandmother. AnneMarie and Parker enjoyed going to the beach and playing “school” with their Meme. She was their most favored person in the world.
The church community was very important to Melissa. She loved teaching Sunday school and volunteering her time in Kids Spring. She was also an avid motorcyclist, making many trips to Key West with her dear friend John.
Melissa is preceded in death by her father, Greene S. Langford. Survivors include her mother and best friend, Jacquelyne Cuzzell; daughter, Genevieve Parker; daughter, Maggie Dillehay (Chris Long); granddaughter, AnneMarie Dillehay; grandson, Parker Dillehay; brother Ernest (Regina) Langford; brother, Greene (Genie) Langford, Jr.; Many Uncles, Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.
The Family would like to extend a special thank you to Jimmy and Alice Gatch, along with the entire Gatch Electrical family, for their kindness and support over the past two years.
The Memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, June 10, 2022, at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation - James Island, 347 Folly Road in Charleston, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Coastal Community Church, 460 Arlington Dr., Charleston, SC 29414.
