Charleston - Mrs. Melissa C. Morgan, 90, of Charleston, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015. Melissa Morgan was born on October 23, 1925 in Charleston, SC to the late Louis and Melissa Cole Chestnut. She grew up on Rutledge Avenue, attending Asbury Methodist Church. She was a retiree of Southern Bell Telephone Company and an active member of the Telephone Company Pioneers. In retirement, she was very active in service through such organizations as United Methodist Women, Meals on Wheels, Ronald McDonald House, serving the migrant workers on Johns Island and enjoyed being a Spoleto volunteer for many years. Her family remembers her as a loving and courageous Mom with a beautiful smile, and a faithful, deeply spiritual Christian. She always put her family first. Her grandchildren remember her as a playful and proud Nana. Many would describe her as a sweet and loyal friend. Survivors include her daughters, Ruth Dombrowski and her husband Tom, of Charleston and Melissa Riley and her husband John, of Aiken, SC; grandchildren, Beth Dombrowski, Brian Dombrowski and his wife Eileen, Sarah Riley and Ben Riley; great-granddaughter, Calliope; her brother Paul Chestnut and her sister-in-law Connie Chestnut. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Ruth Houghton and her husband Philip and her brother Louis Chestnut, Jr. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Epworth United Methodist Church, 1540 Camp Rd, Charleston, SC 29412. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at 12 Noon on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Epworth United Methodist Church. In addition to flowers, memorial donations may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church.
