Melissa Ann Turner, 55, of Charleston, SC passed on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. She was born on Wednesday, August 2, 1961 in Georgetown, SC, daughter of the late Bertha Scurry Turner and the late Jack Earl Turner, Sr. Melissa Turner graduated from the University of SC with a BA degree in English in 1983. Melissa worked for over 18 years for the SC Department of Social Services in children’s services. She was a certified adoption’s investigator and has been working conducting adoption home studies and foster parent training for the last 5 years. Throughout the course of her career she worked diligently to improve the lives of children and families and made a positive impact on everyone she met. Trying to find the right words to describe the person who was Melissa Turner seem so inadequate. Melissa was a force of nature – a person who never met a stranger and who was truly beloved. She was devoted to her family and friends and would often say her role in life was to take care of others. Melissa had a quick wit and great sense of humor. Her personality was bigger than life and those who knew and loved will never be able to fill the void left by her untimely passing. Melissa will always be remembered for her kindness, love of life and sense of humor. Being a grandmother was the greatest joy of her life. The world is a better place because of her life. She leaves an enduring legacy of love, friendship, and joy. Melissa we love you, cherish your memory and you will live forever in our hearts. She is survived by her wife of 15 years, Cherie Tolley of Charleston, SC; son, Brett W. Moore, Jr. and his wife, Dr. Sarah Moore and grandson, Grayson Moore all of North Charleston, SC; three brothers: Joey Turner, Sr. and his wife, Sharon, of Pawley’s Island, SC; Chris Turner and his wife, Jenny, of Garden City Beach, SC and Jack Turner, Jr. of Blythewood, SC; niece and nephew, Kathleen and Joseph Turner.
