Chief Petty Officer, USN Retired M C Burnett, 85, of Goose Creek, SC entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Trident Hospital. M.C retired from the U S Navy as a Chief Boilerman who served his country in both Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of Carolina Masonic Lodge # 375 in Hanahan and a 32 Degree Scottish rite and Shriner. Upon retiring from the Navy in 1974, Mr. Burnett went to work for Consolidated Theatres and managed several drive-ins in the Tri-County area; along with owning the Swamp Fox Drive In, in Moncks Corner until the mid-1980’s. Mr. Burnett finally retired for good after serving 20 plus years at Alcoa Aluminum in Goose Creek, SC as the head of their security force. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Dolly Waters; Burnett daughters, Dolly Leigh Kauley and Donna Leigh Carman; son, Rev. and Mrs. M C “Bud†Burnett, Jr.; three grandsons, Gary Leigh Rhodes, Christopher Burnett, and Adam Burnett; two granddaughters, Amelia Burnett and Briana Williams and four great granddaughters; brothers, Charles Burnett and Sam Burnett, Jr of Birmingham Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews of South Carolina and Alabama. A memorial service will be held, Friday, October 16, 2015 at 5:00 pm. in McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Goose Creek. The visitation will commence immediately after the service, until 7 pm in the funeral home.
