Matthew Edmond Murphy, Jr.
June 11, 1929 — February 25, 2017
Matthew E. Murphy Jr. 87, of Charleston, SC and husband to Lillian Griffith Murphy, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 25, 2017. Born on June 11, 1929 in Charleston, SC, he was a son of the late Matthew E. Murphy Sr. and Cecilia Donovan Murphy.
Matthew was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He loved to sing in the barber shop quartet and watch sports on TV and he was on a bowling team. Matthew worked in sales and as office manager for Cave Auto Body Supply Company until he retired after 35 years. He will be remembered as a loving husband and loyal friend with a kind smile for everyone.
Besides his wife, Matthew is survived by a sister, Shirley Murphy Duncan of Charleston, SC; a sister-in-law, Irene McGinley of O’Fallon, IL and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Matthew E. Murphy III.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:00 AM on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1122 Russell Drive, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464. The Rite of Committal will immediately follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Senior Ministry of Christ Our King Catholic Church.
