Matilda Jane Roberts

Matilda Jane Roberts, 89 of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2022.

Born on January 6, 1933, in Minerva, KY was the daughter of the late Ruth Robertson (Norris) and Alan Robertson.

Jane was a loving wife and mother of four children, working as a homemaker until the death of her husband Raymond in 1985. With her youngest in college, she began working for Dr. Patrick Dennis Sr. as a receptionist until her retirement. Jane was a lifelong member of James Island Presbyterian Church and loved to sing in the choir. She also loved gardening, birdwatching, and mostly spending time with her family and her dearest circle of friends. 

Jane is preceded in death by Raymond Roberts (husband), Alan Robertson (father), Ruth Robertson (mother), Bette Lachicotte (sister), Devan Roberts (granddaughter), and Kim Wade Roberts (daughter-in-law)

Jane is survived by her sons Raymond Roberts (Kelly), Brian Roberts, and Michael Roberts. Jane is also survived by her daughter Kimberly Bennett (Glen) and her grandchildren Joel Roberts (Mikayla), Rebecca Roberts, Chris Roberts, Macy Roberts, Aubrey Bennett, and Austin Bennett, and great-grandson Raymond James Carr.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at McAlister Smith Funeral and Cremation, 347 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 10:00 am at the James Island Presbyterian Church, 1632 Fort Johnson Road, James Island, SC 29412. Burial will follow at the James Island Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
