Mary R. Stricklin

May 23, 1919 — July 21, 2017

Mary R. Stricklin, 98, wife of the late Curtis W. Stricklin, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro, SC. Mary was born in Gordon County, Georgia and was the daughter of Zeb Vance and Frances Elizabeth Beason Reddix. Besides her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her daughter, Judy Elizabeth Stricklin Steen; son-in-law, Ronald Steen and great grandchild, Griffin Robert Stricklin.
Mrs. Stricklin came to Columbia in May of 1941, attended Commercial Business College and was employed by the Federal Government at Ft. Jackson, SC, the Pentagon in Washington, DC., SC Electric & Gas Co., Town of Forest Acres as Town Clerk and Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Friendship Sunday School class, Evelyn Bouyer Circle, Coffee Club and Women’s Army Corp 1943.
She is survived by her son, Charles V. Stricklin Sr. and his wife, Glinda; her niece Ann Reddix Williams and her husband Paul; grandchildren are Charles Vance Stricklin Jr. and wife Carolyn, Brian Christopher Stricklin, Kathy Gallant, Kim Gallant Revels including step-grandchildren: Bobbi Gentry, Michael Gentry, Wendy Steen, Ron Steen and wife Niki and Beverly Stricklin, the mother of Vance and Brian Stricklin.
Great-grandchildren are Grace, Alex and Lauren Stricklin, Lily Stricklin, Christopher Gallant, James and Harrison Revels, Taylor, Sarah Katherine and Nathan Steen.
Services will be held graveside at Greenlawn Memorial Park 845 Leesburg Rd. Columbia, SC at 3:00PM on Saturday, August 5, 2017 officiated by Rev. Dr. Robert Walker, Pastor of Main Street United Methodist Church. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted online at www.mcalister-smith.com.
