Mary Jean Stanfield, age 76, of Goose Creek died Tuesday, November 4, 2014. She was born March 20, 1938 in Port Huron, MI, the daughter of the late George and Emily James. Mary was a graduate of Port Huron High School, then met and married her husband of 57 years, John, in Orange, Texas. The Naval Shipyard brought the family to Goose Creek in 1966. Mary raised five children and briefly worked for Berkeley County and was instrumental with coaching and mentoring athletes at the Goose Creek Parks and Playgrounds. She loved NASCAR, softball, and was a collector of many treasured items. Her family will remember her as a loving mother, grandmother, wife, and a special friend. She is survived by her husband, John C. Stanfield, Sr.; four children, Emilie Stanfield and husband Michael Roudabush of Goose Creek, Yvonne (Johnnie) Stanfield of Asheville, NC, John Stanfield Jr. of Summerville, Kevin Stanfield and wife Karen of Goose Creek; brother, George James and wife Marie of Charleston; eight grandchildren, Kevin Jr, Arlin, Jessica and husband Robert, Stacy, Brandon, John III, Caleb, and Connor. She is predeceased by her daughter Cary Lee Wilson and daughter in law, Susan Stanfield. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 7:30 pm at McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME GOOSE CREEK CHAPEL, 869 St. James Avenue.
