Mary H. Mayo, 98, of Sullivan's Island, passed away August 19th, 2017.
Born in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late Hallie and Ethel Henry and wife for 40 years to the late Col. Joseph Britton Mayo. She was born November 17th, 1918, graduated from Bishop England High School and St. Francis School of Nursing. She was a member of Stella Maris Catholic Church. She worked as a registered nurse in the operating room and on private duty. She lived all over the world and worked as a volunteer in hospitals. She loved to travel, play golf, and spend time with her family. She was a wonderful storyteller and especially loved children. She touched many lives and will be missed.
Mary is survived by her children, Mary Theresa Vedilago of Sullivan's Island and James Britton Mayo of Coral Springs, FL; grandchildren, Virginia and husband Rafael, Erin and husband Anderson, Devon and wife Meghan and Britt and wife Cora; great grandchildren, Beckett, Lexi, Sawyer, Evie, Nico and Emerson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1205 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 28th, 2017.
The rosary will be recited on Sunday, August 27th, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL. The family will receive friends between 5:00p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on that date.
