Mary Black Holliday, 96, went to her heavenly home on June 25, 2021.
She was born on November 20, 1924, in Columbia SC. She was the oldest of three children born to the late James Floyd Black and Margueritte Griffin Black. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Joseph E. Holliday, Sr., her second husband of 10 years, Marshall G. Solomon and her two brothers: James F. "Buddy" Black and Jefferson T. Black.
A life-long member of Cherokee Place United Methodist Church, she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Boone Bowen Bible Sunday School Class. She worked in various accounts payable positions until she retired from the loan department of First Union Bank in 1985.
She had a variety of craft skills and produced many beautiful works, including baby dresses worn by her daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter. Nothing made her happier than to share her creations with others. For many years, she was a member of "Newborns in Need," and at one point sewed 166 pillowcases for children in the hospital with cancer. She was recognized by a local television station for her volunteer efforts.
She is survived by her three children: Joseph E. Holliday, Jr. (Mary), Linda H. Stone; and Connie H. Lee (Michael Benny); stepson Marshall Solomon (Linda); six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
