Mary Frances Bassett, 79 of James Island, SC, passed away at her home on Monday, January 16, 2023.
Born on August 18, 1943, in Seneca, SC, to the late Carrie Spencer (Ward) and Raymond Spencer.
Frances lived an active and full life absolutely dedicated to her family. As a Navy wife she practically raised five children on her own through many naval deployments and duty assignments. Her children will forever be grateful for the love and care, instilled morals and values, and her being the heart of the family. She was an accomplished artist in many genres, from oil and watercolor paintings, stained glass, sewing, and numerous skilled crafts and projects. She volunteered her time with the Naval Officers Wives Club to support non-profit outreach and charities which benefited local communities. She and her husband, Retired USN Captain William T. Bassett, adopted a local elementary class for special needs and hosted wonderful classroom parties for holidays throughout the year. She loved feeding the birds and enjoying her backyard pond. More than anything, she loved having her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren near her as often as could happen.
She is survived by William T. Bassett (Husband), Alice Abrams (Daughter), Cassandra Albenesius (Daughter), Carisa Capps (Daughter), Nerissa Gagne (Daughter), and Ward Bassett (Son). Her Son-in-Laws, Bobby Abrams, Michael Albenesius and Julio Gagne. Her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, Francis Abrams (Melissa), Ava Abrams, Thomas Abrams, Henry Abrams, William Capps, Atticus Gagne, Virginia Gagne, Braylen Bassett and Westley Bassett. Her sisters, Becky Hines (David) and Sharon Carson and an abundance of nieces and nephews near and dear to her heart and their families.
Frances is preceded in death by Raymond Spencer (Father), Carrie (Ward) Spencer (Mother), Sarah Abrams (Granddaughter), Katherine Taylor (Sister), Billy Jo Cox (Sister) and Paul Spencer (Brother).
The family will host a Friends & Family visit on Saturday, January 28, 2023, between 1:00pm – 3:30pm, at Michael and Cassandra’s home on Johns Island, SC. Children are more than welcome.
