Mary Anne Saldajeno, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, died November 14, 2015. Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1935, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary Towey Smith and wife to Herminio Saldajeno. Growing up in Shelter Island, New York, Mary Anne was accomplished in horsemanship and a stand out high school athlete in softball, basketball and cheerleading. While she aspired to become a Phys-Ed teacher, her mother urged her into the nursing profession. She entered Saint Catherine’s Hospital School of Nursing, where she met her future husband Herminio Saldajeno. Anne and Sal settled in Boonton, New Jersey to raise their family. Anne coached grade school cheerleading squads as well as participated on softball, bowling and tennis teams as her children grew up. Anne loved to travel and enjoyed visiting her children across the United States. Together with her husband, Anne traveled to Europe, Canada, Hawaii, Alaska and the Philippines. She relocated to South Carolina from Florida in 2013 and lived in Sommerby Mt. Pleasant with her husband. She is survived by her husband Herminio, of Mt. Pleasant; two sons, Francis Saldajeno and wife Lynn of Mt. Pleasant and Michael Saldajeno and wife Cara of Thousand Oaks, CA; two daughters, Margaret Saldajeno of Roswell, GA and Anne Marie Saldajeno and husband Robert Carroll of Seattle, WA. She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren. A viewing will be held at 12:00pm followed by prayer service on Monday, November 16, 2015 in MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, JAMES ISLAND CHAPEL. Burial will be held in New Port Richie at a later date.
