Marvin Joseph Santos, 93, husband of the late Maxine Cash Santos, of Charleston, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 at The Veteran’s Victory House in Walterboro. Marvin Santos was born on August 28, 1922 in Charleston, SC to the late Carroll A. Santos and the late Theodora Graddick Santos. Mr. Santos was a retired mortgage banker and served as a pilot in the US Navy. He also retired from the Corp of Engineers after more than 10 years of service. Survivors include his daughters, Maxine Witte (Sparky) of Mt. Pleasant, Dolly Jaffee (David) of Charleston, Carroll A. Santos of Mt. Pleasant, Patrice Santos of James Island, and his son, Francis D. Santos of Pompano Beach, FL; 8 grandchildren; Sparky Witte Jr (Amy), Liza Witte Hendrix (Matthew), Charlotte Witte Schronce (Ivan), Dennis Jaffee, Andrew Jaffee (Fiance' Kristin), Caroline Jaffee, Meghan Santos, Shelby Santos and 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Mr. Santos was preceded in death by his infant son, Marvin Joseph Santos, Jr. Marvin came from a family of 10. He is survived by Charlotte DeVillier, Emmet Santos and Craig Santos. He was predeceased by four brothers; Carroll A. Santos Jr., Francis Santos, Bobby Santos, Louis Santos,and two sisters; Katherine Jarvis and Dolly Calvert. Marvin was a very serious golfer and surely loved a little Jack Daniels every once in awhile. He had a great sense of humor... loved to laugh and entertain his family and friends with storytelling as well as the best jokes. Marvin was a hardworking father after losing the love of his life, Maxine, in 1967. He was left with a 4 yr old son and four daughters from 11-15 and held on to keep his family together. 'Monk' (his Exchange Club nickname) was a member of the Exchange Club of Charleston since 1959 and held his place at the Coastal Carolina Fair every year until he was unable to go any longer.. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, February 3rd, at 11 AM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel.(347 Folly Road) The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10 AM. A Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
