Marie T. Mayfield

Charleston -Mrs. Marie Virginia Tuten Mayfield, 96, of Charleston, South Carolina entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, on Saturday, March 10, 2018.
Marie was born in Charleston, SC on December 26, 1921 to the late Carl Bernard Tuten Sr. and Essie Grooms Tuten.
Marie attended Courtney School, Memminger High School, and Rice Business College. She retired from MUSC payroll department in 1985 after 20 years. Marie was a wonderful lady who loved her family, but most importantly her Lord. She was a very generous, gracious, and caring mother and grandmother. Her family will remember her sense of humor, her sharp wit, and her stories from her youth.
Besides her parents, Marie is predeceased by her brothers, Carl B. Tuten Jr., and James R. Tuten; sister, Inez Tuten Fiddie.
Survivors include her daughter Debra Mayfield Rogers (Chris), Jean Mayfield Barr (Jim); grandson, Alec Barr; sisters in law, Juanita Tuten and Wilhelmena Tuten. Several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 3:00PM on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow the service at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
