Marie Anne Juliette Deprez Crawford

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Anne Deprez Crawford, who died peacefully on February 2, 2025, at the age of 95 at a retirement home near Charleston, South Carolina.

Marie Anne was born on June 2, 1929, in Douai, France. Her early years were shaped by the beauty and history of her native land, and her adventurous spirit would carry her across Europe and beyond. After living through Nazi occupation during World War II, Marie Anne found herself heading to America for her husband's work. She later lived in Greenwich, Connecticut; Liege, Belgium; and Salisbury, Maryland, before settling in St. Michael's, Maryland, where she found peace and a sense of community. A lover of all cultures, Marie Anne traveled the world with Douglas for his career. Her time in the far east particularly left an impression on her and left her with a deep appreciation of their culture. In her later years, Marie Anne moved to Charleston to be closer to her family.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Douglas Crawford. Marie Anne is survived by her devoted daughter Patricia and her husband Howard, her son Charles, and her cherished grandchildren: Eleanor and her husband Scott, Emma and her fiancé Kevin, and Will. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Margot and Charlie, who brought her great joy and pride in her later years.

Marie Anne was deeply devoted to her family, and she found immense joy in watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and thrive.

A private service will be held to celebrate Marie Anne's life at the end of February, with the family gathering to honor her memory.
