Marcella "Sallie" Valentine

Marcella "Sallie" Valentine, 92, of Saluda, VA, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022.

Born on August 13, 1930, in Bismarck, ND, she was the daughter of the late Martha Steiger and Jacob Scheuffele.

Besides her parents, Sallie is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Valentine; daughter, Andrea Arnold; granddaughter, Nichole Wyndham; two sisters and one brother.

Sallie is survived by five daughters: Sandra Miller, Bonnie Carambia, Roxanne Cloran, Danette Mountcastle and Raenelle Joyner; 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, a niece, two nephews and many foster children.

Sallie was always active. She enjoyed painting and teaching others how to paint. Many of her paintings hang in her children's homes. She was also active in the Foster Children Organization. She was always ready to help the young children have a stable home with plenty of love. To this day, many still call her MOM. Her love of children led her to teach in the local schools. She was always willing to try new things. Being around her family was the most important thing for her - a ready smile, a big hug was always waiting for them all. She liked to dye her hair purple, and at the age of 80, decided to get a tattoo. She was known to have a shot of tequila with her daughter and let us not forget her love for a good scotch. Sally lived a full life and her last eight years living with her daughter, Bonnie, was no different. She loved to sit outside and watch the birds, sew some and spend time in her she shed - and what a shed shed it is! We could go on, but I feel you got a glimpse of her time here.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley. A graveside service will follow at Live Oak Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Sallie's name.
