Loretta C. Boone

Loretta C. Boone of Summerville, SC, died May 6, 2017. She was born in Raymond, IL, the daughter of Lucille and Leo Weitekamp on April 11, 1927. She was predeceased by husbands, Robert Whitcomb of Springfield, IL, and Ross Boone of Hillsboro, IL, two sons, Mark and Jimm Whitcomb, one stepson, Kenny Ross Boone, three sisters and four brothers. Loretta attended Brown’s Business College and worked as an office manager for two wonderful doctors in Springfield, IL. She also worked for the Montgomery County Highway Department. Loretta was an active volunteer in her church as a member of the St. Joseph’s Guild and a Eucharistic Minister at Blessed Sacrament and St. Joseph’s Church in Springfield, IL. She was a Samaritan at St. John’s Hospital and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Springfield, IL. After moving to South Carolina, she was a volunteer at East Cooper Community Outreach and Christ the King Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Loretta is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Schaffner (husband Jim), six grandchildren, and one stepson, David Boone. Loretta’s 90th birthday had recently been celebrated with a surprise party, attended by 38 friends and she received over 70 birthday cards! Loretta was described as a classy, positive, vibrant, special lady who never tired of doing little things for others. Loretta was a gifted calligrapher. She loved good shoes, loved to play golf and loved to dance! She requested to be buried in high heel shoes so “I can dance all the way to heaven!” Visitation will be at Immaculate Conception Church, Goose Creek, SC on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with a Mass to celebrate Loretta’s life to follow at 12:00 p.m. There will be a family graveside service at St. Raymond Cemetery in Raymond, IL in June. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Villa Angela Home for Girls, 715 North 4th Street, Springfield, Illinois 62702.
