Loida Balterocruz

Mrs. Loida Huerta Balterocruz, 71, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024.

Born on August 4, 1953, in Zambales, Philippines, Loida was the second eldest daughter of the late Eustaquia Dolin Huerta and the late Felixberto Huerta.

Loida was born in Zambales, Philippines in 1953, and moved to Charleston, SC in 1987. Shortly after moving to America, she became the beloved wife of Gregorio Balterocruz. They worked various jobs together to raise their small family. She enjoyed fishing at Shem Creek and Folly Beach, going to the Battery for fresh air, eating at different restaurants and taking family trips to Jacksonville, FL. She liked to go thrift shopping, looking for yard sales, going to the flea market, and planting vegetables in the backyard. She was a great cook and was well-known for her lumpia, rice cakes, suman and bibingka. She would give manicures and pedicures to friends and family in her free time. She was very outspoken and had a witty sense of humor. She was also very wise and gave helpful advice. She enjoyed watching action movies and game shows. 

She was a very devoted mother to her two children and a very loving grandmother to her three grandsons: Daonte’, Darien and Kai’ren. Loida was truly the happiest when she was surrounded by her family and the people she loved.

Loida is preceded in death by her father, Felixberto Huerta and her mother, Eustaquia Huerta.

Loida is survived by her husband, Gregorio Balterocruz; son, Vergel Balterocruz; daughter, Marie Balterocruz; grandsons: Daonte’ Voeltz Jr., Darien Voeltz, and Kai’ren Huerta; sisters: Melinda Buzalko, Helen Camisera, Divina Gravley, Connie Reed; and brother, Dennis Huerta. 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025, from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation, 869 St. James Ave in Goose Creek.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 510 St. James Avenue in Goose Creek. The burial will follow after mass at Berkeley Memorial Gardens in Moncks Corner.
