Hall Brackney Liles, Jr.

Hall Brackney Liles Jr., 86, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, cast his final line on Thursday, September 19, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering dedication to his family and community, and perhaps a few more trout for the rest of us to pursue. His passing leaves our streams a little quieter, The Horseshoe a little less spirited, but our hearts full of cherished memories.

Born on June 16, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Mildred (Hoover) Liles and Hall Brackney Liles Sr., Hall mastered the art of balancing work, family, and passion for the things he loved. After graduating from Ohio Northern University in 1961, he began teaching Business Administration at London High School. His 40-year insurance career culminated as Senior Vice President at Acordia. Throughout, Hall's integrity, business acumen, and relationship-building skills served him well in both his career and extensive community service.

His 63-year marriage to Carolyn Liles was marked by steadfast affection, their love story beginning with a blind date. Together, they raised three children: Deborah Miller, Laurie Fordney (married to Joseph Fordney II), and Hall B. Liles III (married to Julie Liles). As a grandfather, Hall never missed a soccer game, basketball game, or any little event for Mason Liles (and wife Alexandra Liles), Landon Miller, Clara Fordney, Joseph Fordney III, and Liles Fordney.

His love for community and nature-centered on Burt Lake, Michigan. Hall was an avid outdoorsman and a lifetime member of the Zanesfield Rod & Gun Club, Little Sturgeon Trout Club, and Lake Hill Club.

Hall's commitment to service extended far beyond family. He served on numerous boards and committees, including as Director of J.A. Guy, Inc. and the Buckeye Boosters. As a longstanding member and President (1992) of the Nationwide Children's Hospital Development Board, and as a Trustee of the Alzheimer's Association of Central Ohio, he demonstrated compassion for those facing life's toughest challenges. He was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, First Community Church, and a 34th Degree Mason.

A service will be held at Saint James Anglican Church, 1101 Camp Road on Saturday, September 28, at 11:00 am. A visitation will take place following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association https://www.alz.org or Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, https://www.nationwidechildrens.org - causes close to Hall's heart.
