Leopoldo L. Bersamina

Leopoldo L. Bersamina, 81 of Summerville, SC, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

Born on October 19, 1941, in Pasay City, he was a son of the late Inosencia Lontok Bersamina and Melchor Bersamina. 

Leopoldo graduated with a mechanical engineering associates degree at Philippine College of Art and Trade. He served in and returned after 24 years in the United States Navy as a MMI (Machinist Mate). He was a mechanic for Charleston City for 6 years and a professional truck driver for 12 years. Leopoldo was a member of the Moncks Corner VFW and the American Legion of West Ashley. He boxed and played basketball during his early years. Some of his sports heroes were Muhammad Ali and Kareem Abdul Jabar. Leopold enjoyed traveling around the southeast, mostly in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. When at home, he enjoyed working on his farm in St. George, South Carolina.

Besides his parents, Leopoldo is preceded in death by his brothers, Bing Bersamina, Vevencio Bersamina and Manuel Bersamina.

Leopoldo is survived by his wife, Justina Bersamina; sons, Leonel Bersamina and Leecharde Bersamina; nephew, Vincent Bersamina; niece, De Dee Bersamina; daughter-in-law, Nerissa Bersamina; grandchildren: Maria Carina, Allison Bersamina, Carina Bersamina, Jasmine Bersamina and Nathan Bersamina; great-grandchildren, Camille Vang and Mila Vang; and grandson-in-law.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Goose Creek.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 510 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Caracciolo Mission Church Building Fund, C/O Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 510 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
