Leita T Brazzell (Turner)

Mrs. Leita T Brazzell, 83 of Goose Creek, SC, widow of Chalmers Benjamin “Jim” Brazzell, died Monday, February 3, 2014. Born February 12, 1930 in Gaffney, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Grady Giles Turner and Effie Missouri Greene Turner. She loved shopping and she loved giving. Christmas holiday was her favorite time of the year. Christmas shopping was done by October every year. She loved cross-stitch and freely gave to her friends and family, creating beautiful pieces of artwork. She was employed at Charleston Southern University, formerly Baptist College, from 1969-1995. In her final years, she was the personal assistant to the President, Dr. Jairy Hunter. She decided to return to work part time in 2000, working with student housing. She continued working there until she became ill in 2013. She was known for being feisty and quick-witted. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years. She is survived by her sons, Grady Gerald “Jerry” Brazzell and Howard Gregory “Greg” Brazzell (Greta), all of Goose Creek; her granddaughters, Erika Bree Brazzell and Sabrina Paige Brazzell; her sister, Rae T. Austell, of Charlotte; and her dear friends, Carolyn (her best friend since the first grade) and Pat Smith. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 6-8PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Goose Creek Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 11AM in the chapel of the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Whispering Pines.
