Laura Marie Whitman

Laura Marie Whitman, 40, of Charleston, SC passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2015 in Charleston, SC. She was born on Saturday, December 14, 1974 in Little Rock, AR to Mrs. Melinda F. Whitman and Mr. Neil Whitman. Laura graduated from Wade Hampton High School in Taylors, SC. She attended USC, Greenville Technical College and Trident Technical College. She studied hospitality management and civil engineering technology. Laura worked on the Cooper River Bridge Replacement Project, Interstate widening in Austin, the I-26 project in Charleston and most recently with Gulfstream Construction in Charleston. Laura loved live music, especially Widespread Panic. She attended hundreds of Widespread concerts across the US and the Caribbean. Laura was a caring and giving person who was loved very much by all who knew her. Her family remembers her as a loving daughter, sister, friend and Aunt Lu. She is survived by her loving parents, Neil and Melinda Whitman, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lisa and Patrick McClary and Katie and Cleve Henderson, all of James Island, SC; nephews, Owen McClary and Joe Henderson; niece, Vivian McClary; aunts, Patricia Givens (Scott), of Brandon, FL and Cheryl Bloy (James) of Melbourne, FL; Cousins, Scott, Patrick, and Lia Givens, Clifford and Kyle Curry; her longtime boyfriend, Michael Losson, of Charleston, SC; and her beloved dog, Dottie. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Chapel. A Rite of Catholic Burial will be held at Christ Our King Church on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made in her honor to Teachers' Supply Closet, 1401 Sam Rittenberg Blvd, Suite 11, Charleston, SC 29407.
