Laura Hewitt LaPierre

Born on June 17, 1952, in Florence, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Sarah Ella  "Bunny" Grantham Hewitt. 

Laura was the best wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister in law, aunt, cousin, and friend we have ever known. She always looked on the positive side and brought a smile to every room or group she entered.  She never met an animal she didn't want to bring home.

Laura was a member of the ECOMC Ladybugs, fundraising for charities in the East Cooper area.  She was a devoted homemaker and her first priority was caring for her family, especially her two grandsons, who lovingly referred to her as Meme.

In addition to her parents, Laura is preceded in death by her brother, Brian Hewitt, her Nana, Ethel Grantham, and grandparents Rufus and Mama Sue Hewitt.

Laura is survived by her husband Lucien Lapierre, daughter, Lucia Lapierre Cash, grandsons, Colton and Liam Cash, granddaughter, Caroline Cash, brother, David Hewitt (Margaret), aunt, Ann Hewitt Brown (Wayne), sister in law, Kim McClam (O'Neil), nephews, Charlie Hewitt (Katie), Joseph and Drayton Hewitt, great nephew,  Charles (Trey), and great nieces, Olivia and Ella Grace.

Laura brought so much joy to our lives and has left a huge void in our family.  Laura will never be forgotten.

A visitation will be on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant S.C. 29464.

A Mass will be held at Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street, Sullivans Island S.C. 29483, on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 10:00am.

The family will host a reception following the service at Goldbug Island, 1560 Ben Sawyer Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Charleston Animal Society.
