Larry John Wiessmann was born in Wayne, NJ on August 27, 1947 and passed away on June 8, 2022 in Charleston, SC.
He married Colleen Wiessmann on October 7, 1989, and he and Colleen resided in West Milford, NJ before moving to Seabrook Island full-time in 2003.
Larry Wiessmann has two married sons, Erik Wiessmann (Tammy) and Trevor Wiessmann (Carley), and two married step-children, Chris Ryan (Michelle) and Kelly Raucci (Lou), 6 grandchildren, 3 surviving sisters and 2 surviving brothers.
Larry owned the company Northern Fire and Safety, was President of NJAFED, and was instrumental in the New Jersey certification of the industry. Employees appreciated how professionally he ran the business and supervised them. Larry was an avid golfer and loved to garden; his house was open to the garden tours for a number of years. He also loved to write letters to The Post and Courier, in which many were published.
He recently became a member of the Seabrook Island Cigar Club where he met many, many new friends. Larry was a lover of vast genres of music with folk music being his favorite, but anything from Bob Marley, Jimmy Buffet, Cat Stevens, and Peter Allen would do. Golfers on the course being their house would often hear Larry's music while playing a round. Larry was a wonderful cook, had many dinner and holiday parties, never revealing his recipes. Larry would spend his days reading on his porch, smoking a cigar, and enjoying the sounds and views of Seabrook. He will be dearly missed by all.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 4:00 pm at the Seabrook Island Lake House, Seabrook Island Road, Seabrook Island, SC 29455, which will be open to anyone who would like to attend, share a story, or smoke a cigar in his honor.
