Larry James Atkinson, 72, of Charleston, South Carolina died November 28, 2015. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was the son of Pauline Coley Atkinson and the late James R. Atkinson and husband to the late MaryAnn Atkinson. Larry grew up in Charlotte and enjoyed a career with Dial Corporation that spanned over thirty five years, retiring as Vice President of Sales. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends and spending his days at Folly Beach, South Carolina. Larry loved to travel and enjoyed fine dining. He was fortunate to be able to travel to many places throughout the United States, Caribbean, Mexico and Europe. Mr. Atkinson was an avid reader, particularly historical novels, and maintained a sizable library, of which he was quite proud. He lived his life commensurate with the following quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, “It is not the length of life, but the depth of life.†Mr. Atkinson is survived by his children, Larry “Tripp†Atkinson, Jr. of Charlotte; daughter Michelle Dean and her husband Derek of Charleston, South Carolina; mother, Pauline Coley Atkinson and sister, Beckie Johnson of Charlotte; and grandchildren, Drake Armstrong Dean and Beck Atkinson Dean of Charleston, South Carolina. In keeping with Larry’s wishes, no memorial service will be held, and the family intends to celebrate his life in the future to commemorate their ever abiding love.
