Mrs. Larla H. French, 61, wife of Vincent French, of James Island, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015. Larla French was born on August 21, 1954 in Americus, GA to the late Alva Hatcher and Leola Grant Hatcher. She was a retired school teacher from Charleston County Schools having taught for over 35 years. Teaching was her true passion and because of her love for children, after retiring she became a librarian at Folly Beach, hosting story time for the community. Her family remembers her as a compassionate and caring person who was willing to lend a helping hand when needed. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. In addition to her husband and mother, survivors include her 5 children, Michael Morrow, Tiffany Morrow, Heather French Brush, Amy French and Vincent French, 3 grandchildren, Aden, Ryder and Tanner; 2 sisters, Nancy Rumph and Alice Slappey; 2 brothers, Lee Hatcher and Ray Hatcher. Larla was preceded in death by her father and her brother Richard Hatcher. A Celebration of Life visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 2-4pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel.
