Kristine Kuppens Holmes, 68, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016. She was born on Thursday, June 10, 1948 in Oakland, CA, daughter of the late Lillian Perry Kuppens and the late Richard A Kuppens. Kristine was called Kris by her many friends, and “Grammy†by her grandchildren. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She was known to journalists from around the world for her amazing tomato pie! Kris and her husband Allen own Dixie Supply Bakery and Cafe in the City Market area. Kris and Allen travelled the world together and lived abroad for several years, but they always considered Charleston home. Together they contributed to the downtown business community. Kris had an indomitable spirit and an easy laugh. She always wanted to go the extra mile to add that special touch. She will be greatly missed by many. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Allen Whilden Holmes, Jr. of Charleston, SC; son, Jason C. Holmes of Palm Bay, FL; daughter, Nicole H. Mihalas and her husband, Mike, of Brevard, NC; and three grandchildren: Nicholas, Zoe, Alexander Mihalas of Brevard, NC. She is also survived by her brothers Richard A. Kuppens (Sue) of West Columbia, SC, Thomas N. Kuppens of Mt. Pleasant, SC, John F. Kuppens (Jill) of Columbia, SC, her niece and nephews Emily Kuppens of Folly Beach, SC, Thomas N. Kuppens (Ansley) of Atlanta, GA, Richard Kuppens of Kennesaw, GA and Kelly Wisherd (Jim) of Kennesaw, GA and her five grand nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 30, 2016 at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 89 Hasell Street, Charleston, SC 29401, officiated by Msgr. Steven Brovey.
