CHARLESTON, SC. -- Klaus Friedrich August Staats, 89, of Charleston, SC, went home to our Lord Jesus Christ on December 25, 2022.
Mr. Staats was born April 11, 1933, in Bremen, Germany, the son of the late Hugo Heinrich Staats and Hermine Pabst Staats. A survivor of World War II, he earned a degree in mechanical engineering in Germany. In 1977, he and is family immigrated to the United States and resided in Tega Cay, SC. He assisted with the introduction of nonwoven textile manufacturing throughout the US. After retiring, he moved to Charleston with his wife. Together, they enjoyed boating, fishing, crabbing, shrimping, and especially their slow walks along the shoreline on Folly Beach. He enjoyed being surrounded by his family, always had a home project or two, and loved his wife’s cooking, and the home life she created.
Mr. Staats is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jung Ai (Lee) Staats, his daughter, Manuela Staats and husband, Mario Lopez of Charleston, S.C. His son Akim Staats and wife, Kalisa of Fort Mill, S.C., five grandchildren, Leigha Grace Hope, Aden August Mariner Staats, Coledan Matthew Hope, Ari Abram Coen Staats, and Maya Eden Lopez-Staats.
