Kevin William Downs

Kevin William Downs, 68 of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

Born on August 2, 1955, in Boone, NC was a son of the late William and Beverly (Boyers) Downs.

Kevin was a good-hearted man that loved his family and the simple things in life. Falling in his father's footsteps, Kevin chose a life of service in the US Military. Kevin was a proud United States Air Force Veteran that served his country with honor and pride. Kevin developed the love of travel because of the military and this carried over to his biggest passion in life, flying. Over the next decade in a half, Kevin privately flew thousands of air miles taking people on private charters and even landed on the artic ocean. He opened and created Pastime Hobbies, which was tailored to all RC enthusiasts and even more to those that wanted to learn to fly but couldn't obtain a pilot license. After years of owning and operating Pastime Hobbies, Kevin sold out and bought a Class A RV. Continuing his love of travel he traveled to every corner of the US, with a dog named Charlie Brown. On these journeys he would collect different jewelry and artifacts from each location that showed where had been and where he was going. After finding his way back to North Carolina years later, he developed another long loving passion, the automotive industry. Kevin worked for years at a dealership local to his hometown, and then shortly after made his way down to Charleston SC where he spent the last 9 years working at Ravenel Ford and holding on to his love of the automotive industry.

Kevin is preceded in death by his parents, William and Beverly Downs.

There will be a Visitation for friends to gather on Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 6:00-8:00pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation - James Island, SC 29412. Air Force Military Honors will be accorded at 6:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Kevin’s name.
