Kenneth Eugene Russ, 85, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina passed away, Sunday, August 26, 2018.
He was born on March 23, 1933 in Clarkton, North Carolina to George and Molly (DeVane) Russ.
Kenneth graduated from Long Creek Grady High School, and received his Civil Engineering degree from North Carolina State University. He was a GS-5 in the US Coast Guard, he worked as a Civil Engineer with the US Forest Service, and he retired from Civil Service after 30 years from the US Army Corp of Engineers.
Kenneth was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, where he enjoyed singing in the choir and playing the old hymns on the piano. He was a Masonic Life Member and was a Past Master of Fort Moultrie Lodge. He also was a member of Loyalty Eastern Star Chapter, Charleston 56 Order of the Eastern Star, and Lawrence Howell Court order of the Amaranth. He was Past Grand Royal Patron for the state of South Carolina Order of the Amaranth.
He will be remembered for his gentle manner, warm hugs, and his great smile. He was proud of his daughter Amy, “Babe”, and his grandson Russ, “Shuga Bubba”, and his son-in-law Kevin. He enjoyed traveling and cruising with his family and friends.
He leaves behind his daughter Amelia “Amy” Russ Thames, son-in-law Kevin Scott Thames, grandson Kevin Russ Thames, and brother E. Van Russ.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Molly Russ, his loving wife Edith, brothers George, Mertin, Frank, and sisters Eppie and Alice.
The family will receive friends on August 29, 2018 from 5:00PM - 7:00PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC, 29464.
A Celebration of Life Service will be August 30, 2018 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 681 McCants Drive, Mt. Pleasant, SC, 29464. With burial to follow at Mt Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC, 29464.
