Kathleen Sloan

Kathleen Sloan, 86, of Mt. Pleasant SC, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Born in Keota, IA, on October 4, 1931, to the late Dr. Joseph L. and Ellen (Brady) Doyle. In 1951, in Hondo, TX, she married Raymond Sloan, who preceded her in death in 1982. Kathleen graduated from Marycrest College and received a Master in Education from the University of Iowa. She taught for 33 years in the Rock Island, Illinois school system, and for 15 years in Bettendorf, Iowa. She also taught evening courses at Black Hawk College in Moline, Illinois and worked at the Illinois Migrant Council. Her hobbies included reading, a love for Arabian horses, jazz, rhythm and blues music. She was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include her children, Mark (Cheryl) Sloan of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Jo (Rob) Sloan of New Orleans, LA, John Matthews Sloan of Mt. Pleasant, Terry Sloan of Bend, OR, and Julie Sloan of New Orleans, LA; brother Terry Doyle of Bend OR; and grandchildren, Kelly, Brenden, Lindsay, and Lauren Sloan. A funeral mass and celebration of Kathleen’s life will be held on Tuesday January 2 at 1:00PM at Somerby of Mt. Pleasant, 3100 Tradition Circle, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466.
