Mrs. Karen Gibson, 76, of Charleston and wife of Raymond Gibson, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018.
Karen was born in Huntington, WV on October 4, 1941 to the late William Adams and Marguerite Wells. Before moving to Charleston 2011, Karen and Raymond lived in Beachwood, NJ for over 40 years.
Karen enjoyed reading, walking, and cooking. She loved animals and leaves behind 3 loving companions. Karen also enjoyed Sunday meals with her family. She graduated from Marshall University with a bachelor’s degree in Education. Karen owned and operated Karen’s Flower Shoppe in Whitings, NJ for over 30 years. Before opening her flower shop, Karen was an elementary school teacher. Later in her life she volunteered at Memminger Elementary as a teacher’s aide for her daughter’s preschool class. Most of all, she loved her family, attending all her grandchildren’s sporting events, and relaxing on her front porch swing. Karen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her family will miss her caring heart, her beautiful smile, her beautiful blue eyes, her laugh and her sense of humor.
Survivors include her husband Raymond, children; Jodi Gibson, Rae Ann Tarbay and husband Michael, Brady Gibson and wife Mary, Dana Rape and husband Rod, grandchildren; Jackson, Bailey, Grayson, and Hayden Rape, Brady and Broden Gibson, Casey and Luke Tarbay, sister; Patricia Goheen and her husband Dennis.
Visitation will be held Wednesday February 14th from 7-9 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home James Island, 347 Folly Rd.
Rite of Christian burial will be held on Thursday February 15th at 10AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel, 56 Center St, Folly Beach, SC 29439.
Burial will be held in Beaufort National Cemetery.
