Karen Bolchoz Ferguson, 60, of Mount Pleasant, SC, wife to Lonnie Greene Ferguson III, entered eternal rest on September 4, 2021.
Karen was born on November 23, 1960, in Charleston, South
Carolina, the daughter of Ruford Joseph Bolchoz and Margaret Budds Bolchoz.
Karen graduated from Bishop England High School in 1979.
Immediately upon graduation, she began a lifelong career in the insurance business starting with Hibernian Insurance Company. Later in life she would continue her career with Pinckney Carter Insurance and finally with Capitol One Insurance.
Several years ago, Karen began volunteering at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Eventually she would leave the insurance business and work full time at MUSC.
It all started on a ball field, and then Karen and Lonnie were married on December 28, 1984. The thing that made Karen the happiest was her family. Karen worked most of her life, but she valued more
than anything being a loving wife, a dedicated mother, a caring grandmother (Granny), a loyal friend, and a dog lover.
Karen loved to spend her downtime cooking old family favorites like her ‘orange stuff’ or trying something new that she found online. She enjoyed the beach and travelling, but even when travelling, she always looked forward to getting home. Karen made lasting impressions on every person she met and always made sure everyone was smiling and felt special.
Karen is survived by Lonnie, her husband of 36 years; her son Lonnie Greene Ferguson IV; her daughter, Lauren-Marie Margaret Ferguson; her dear grandson, Lonnie Greene Ferguson V; and her brother-in-law, Joseph Herndon Ferguson. She is also survived by her brother, COL J. Manning Bolchoz, USA (Ret); brother, Dr. R. Joseph Bolchoz (Patty); sister, Judith Bolchoz Callan (Les); and many nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her father, Ruford; her mother, Margaret; her brother, Charles B. Bolchoz; and her sister-in-law, Maureen Sullivan Bolchoz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Stella Maris Catholic Church on Sullivan’s Island on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 1100.
Burial will follow at Mt Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Bishop England High School Green and White Fund, 363 Seven Farms Drive, Daniel Island, SC 29492.
