June M. Sassard (Milsted)

June M. Sassard, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, SC entered into eternal rest with her daughters by her side on Monday, May 30, 2016. She was born February 22, 1929 in Quincy, FL to the late Mrs. Mary Kelley Milsted and the late Mr. George Wilburn Milsted. June met the love of her life at the Charleston Army Depot, where they were both employed and were married June 11, 1950. She was an avid gardener, and highly recognized for her talents with awards, such as “The Alhambra Applauds” and in flower arranging competitions. June was dedicated to her faith and parish at St. Andrew’s Church, served two terms as President of the Episcopal Church Women, was elected to the Diocesan Board, and enjoyed serving on the Altar Guild. June was an accomplished cook, decorator and enjoyed world travels. Her family will remember her as a loving daughter, wife, mother, and friend. She is survived by two loving daughters, Roxanne Sassard Bernard (Dr. John), of Pendleton, SC, and Kelley Gregorie Sassard, of Mt. Pleasant, SC. The family would like to thank their special friends, Isaiah and Golden Jefferson, for their many years of care and friendship. She was predeceased by her loving parents, her husband of 25 years, Mortimer Venning Sassard Sr., two sisters and one brother. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrew's Church on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Pastor John Burley officiating. Burial will follow in the Christ Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made in her memory to The Salvation Army, 2135 Ashley River Rd, Charleston, SC 29407 and The Low Country Food Bank, 2864 Azalea Drive, North Charleston, SC 29405.
