Joyce Thomas

Joyce Martin Thomas, 64, of McClellanville, SC passed away peacefully with her two daughters at her side on Wednesday, February 7 th , 2024.

Born on October 11th , 1959 in Abbeville, SC, she was the daughter of Edna Martin (Bosler) and the late Marion Martin.

Joyce was a dedicated nurse for over 40 years, but her life's passion was most importantly being a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was a strong and wise woman who many turned to for advice, support, and unconditional love. Her heart and home were open to all. She loved to entertain her family and friends on any given day and could often be seen sitting on her front porch surrounded by those that loved her the most.

Joyce's talents were many - she was a party planner extraordinaire, a lover of live music and the theatre, a talented seamstress, and a do-it-yourself project enthusiast. She loved antiques and mom-swap finds, adding to her collection of treasures and trinkets that adorn the beautiful home that she loved so much. Joyce loved to craft with her granddaughters, travel with her husband, play the piano, and spend time with her family.

Joyce is preceded in death by her son, Josh Thomas, a sister, Laura Martin, and her father, Marion Martin. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Dr. Joseph Thomas Jr., her daughters, Leslie Scott (John), and Sally Thomas (Franklin), three beloved granddaughters, Libby, Anne Frances, and Charlotte Scott, her mother, Edna Martin, her siblings, Jennifer Parnell (Kevin), Amy Ellis (Kevin), Lisa Darling, and Andy Martin (Heather), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 18th, 2024 at 3:00 in the afternoon at the Robert E. Ashley Landing in McClellanville, SC with a celebration of Joyce's life being planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joyce can be made to the two most important foundations that were closest to Joyce's heart. The Josh Thomas Memorial Fund (mail to CREECS 1011 Old Cemetery Rd, McClellanville, SC 29458) and MUSC Children's Hospital Pediatric Oncology.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McAlister-Smith Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, SC.
