Joy Davis Clarke, 75, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina died, Monday, June 26, 2017. Born in Charleston, South Carolina to the late William and Mary Edgington. Joy attended Bishop England High School and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Leonardtown, MD. After the passing of her first husband in 1975, Joy assumed ownership of Joy Transportation Company and later rose to be an Officer and Training Specialist at South Carolina National and Wachovia Banks. In 1984, she was an honored recipient of the American Business Womens Association; and was the first woman admitted to the Mt. Pleasant Kiwanis. Joy distinguished herself through her creativity, charitable spirit, and selflessness. Joy is survived by her children, Catherine Simmons Green and her husband Craig of Summerville, Beth Simmons Kruger and her husband Murray of Alexandria, VA, Pope Manning Simmons of Summerville; grandchildren, Christopher, Caroline, Mary Catherine, Christin, Lindsey, and Frances; great grandchildren, Imogene and Maeve; siblings, Larry Edgington, Judy Miller, Trudy Edgington SCN, Marie Melton, Steve Edgington, and Christine Demers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, MT PLEASANT CHAPEL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Christ our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Drive, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, 29464.
