Joseph Raymond Harshaw, 67, of Summerville, passed away peacefully at the Hospice of Charleston Center the evening of December 7, 2015. Born in Macon, GA, he was the son of the late Raymond C. and Maude F. Harshaw. Joe grew up in Charleston, graduated from Porter Military School, joined the United States Air Force, serving as a plane mechanic during Vietnam. He was a truck driver and also the co¬owner of J & C Moving and Storage. Also, Joe worked at the Old Exchange building as tour guide in the dungeons. Joe was currently working as a security guard at the South Carolina Ports Authority for ASG. He loved to learn, talk and live history. He was a member of the 2 nd South Carolina Regiment for over forty years he could be found with the regiment camping and teaching generations the ways of the old days. Filled with battle stories and history of everywhere; he was a tour guide no matter where he went. Joe was also a member of the South Carolina State Guard in the 6th Battalion, 3rd Regiment, 3rd Brigade. Always ready to be called upon. He is survived by his brother, Charles E. Harshaw; daughter, Tara J. Harshaw and Chris Wilkinson of Summerville; step daughters, Patricia Williams¬Hazel and husband Wayne, Teresa L. Smith and husband Mike and Jennifer Kitcey; grandchildren: Deven Harshaw, Kaelan Wilkinson, Justina D. Pilkonis, Madison T. Smith, Bobby D. Kitcey and Cosmo S. Kitcey. Joe is also survived by many extended family member and close friends. Joe knew no strangers in any of the ways he traveled. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. in MCALISTER¬SMITH FUNERAL HOME, GOOSE CREEK CHAPEL. Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
