Joseph Kelly

Joseph Kelly, 80, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. 

He was the fifth child born to Ethel H. Kelly and the late Isaiah Kelly on February 13, 1943.

Joseph was a dedicated employee of the U.S. Postal Service for 39 years before retiring. He received several recognition and awards for his accrued sick leave hours. He was known for being an expert craftsman and built several things around his home. He loved doing crossword puzzles, watching Westerns and Home Improvement shows, and collecting coins. He was well-known around his neighborhood and was always willing to help others when needed.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joanne H. Kelly; daughters, Michelle Kelly Butler (George Butler), Sharon Kelly-Brown (Terrance Brown), and Melissa K. Holman (Lamont Holman); son, Melvin Kelly (Simona Kelly) and his grandchildren: Meghan Butler, Jaiden Kelly, Tyrell Davis, Sydney Brown, Sean Holman, Nicholas Brown, and Lauren Kelly, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Joseph is preceded in death by his brother, Albert Kelly, and is survived by his brothers: John Kelly, Isaiah Kelly, Ben Kelly, Louis Kelly; and sisters: Ethel Bryant, Ruth Kelly, Dorothy Kelly, and Loretta Lacey.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley. The burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston, SC.
