Joseph Francis Hores, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at his residence on Johns Island, SC. He was born on August 17, 1947, in Wheeling, WV.
Joe was a man of remarkable achievements and a true patriot. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Iraqi Freedom as a member of the United States Army Airborne and Air Force Reserve. His dedication and commitment to serving his nation were unwavering throughout his military career. Joe retired from the United States Post Office after many years of service.
He obtained a master’s degree from Wheeling Jesuit College, and Joe encouraged others around him to pursue their education and reach their full potential.
His true passion was for his family. He loved his wife Margaret unconditionally and cherished their relationship above all else. Their bond was an example of devotion that inspired everyone who knew them.
Joe is also survived by his two daughters, Lisa Perticarini (Steve) and Amy Geraud (Derrick). In addition to his biological children, Joe embraced Jason Fiutem and Justin Fiutem (Jessica), and his former daughter-in-law Marianne Fiutem. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Isabella, Nicolaus, Mason, Ava Grace, Blake, Tristan, Angelo, Antonio and Graham, two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Evans and Margaret Rose, one brother, George Hores,, numerous nieces and nephews and his best friend and buddy “Beau.”
One of his favorite pastimes was spending time in nature, surrounded by the beauty of his flower garden. It was under a majestic Crepe Myrtle tree in his garden that he peacefully passed away, surrounded by the serenity he found in nature.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen Hores, and a special cousin, Mary Ellen Barber.
The void left by Joe, also known as “Bud” or “Uncle Bud” will be felt by all those whose lives he touched. He exemplified dedication, love and perseverance. Through his words and actions, he made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Rest in peace, dear Joseph Francis Hores. May your soul find eternal tranquility in the heavens above.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 from 10:00-11:00am at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3871 Betsy Kerrison Parkway, Johns Island, SC 29455. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00am, followed by entombment in the Holy Spirit Catholic Church Columbarium.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation – James Island, 347 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
