John (“Jackson”) Harwood Abraham III, 32, of Charleston, passed away on April 9, 2021.
Born on April 14, 1988, in Clemson, SC, Jackson was the son of the late Lynne Burwell Abraham and John (“Jack”) Harwood Abraham Jr.
As an adolescent, the family moved to Anderson, SC, where Jackson graduated from McCants Middle School and T.L. Hanna High School. He was athletic in his youth. Jackson attended the College of Charleston, pursuing a degree in Spanish. He studied abroad in both Mexico and Spain. Jackson graduated from the College of Charleston and never lost his love for speaking Spanish with those who could converse with him.
Jackson was a cancer survivor, beating the disease as a very young adult. Jackson endured the heartache of losing both his mother and his childhood best friend, Jon, in the years that followed. Despite all the challenges life had in store for him, Jackson maintained his faith, focus on music, and compassion for others.
Jackson believed deeply in the value of friendship. He maintained close relationships with friends from every stage of his life. He did not speak unkindly of others and chose to see only the redeeming qualities in those around him. He saw beauty in everything. He treated friends as family. Jackson held close the values of integrity, honesty, loyalty, and trust. He was polite and courteous, a consummate gentleman. Jackson was mild-tempered and slow to anger. Jackson was a creative and eclectic; a dapper dresser. He was sentimental and loving. He marched to the beat of his own drum; he valued individuality. He loved to make people smile. Jackson was fanatical about Clemson football and Liverpool, F.C. He was an avid hobbyist and could often be found working crossword puzzles, painting, shark tooth hunting, or spontaneously performing magic or origami demonstrations.
Jackson was an exceptionally talented musician. A talent that surfaced at a very young age, when he would sit down at the family piano and precisely play songs he had heard, having never taken a piano lesson. By his teenage years, playing only by ear, he was a gifted guitarist, pianist, and vocalist. Music was Jackson’s passion, and he made it his calling. As a professional, Jackson was the lead singer of DTSMB, the Charleston Wedding Band, and played smaller venues often as a duo with friend Rob and others. Jackson found immense joy in inspiring others to dance through his music. He loved performing for couples on their wedding day. He loved performing for his nieces and nephews at family gatherings. We all loved being awed by his instrumental talent and remarkable voice.
But above all, Jackson will be remembered as the friend, brother, son, and boyfriend with a heart of gold and sparkling blue eyes. Jackson was the one who overcame obstacle after obstacle and still shined like a beacon of light evincing optimism and grace to others. We are so very proud of the man he became.
Losing him hurts to our deepest, deepest core, but we trust in God’s timing and know it was his time to be called Home.
Jackson is survived by his father and his wife, Teresa Abraham, of Anderson; his sister Mary Lucas and her husband Ryan, of Columbia; his sister Anna Abraham, of Easley. He is further survived by nieces Alli and Marilyn; nephews Ayden, Kingston, and John (“Jack”). Jackson leaves behind his beloved bandmates of nearly a decade: Dan Bladykas, Cameron Ballinger, Stefan Williams, and Rob Royson. He also leaves
behind his loving girlfriend, Kasey Anders, along with countless friends.
