It is with heavy hearts that the family of John Brendan Magee announces that he has gone to be with the Lord. Born in Charleston, S.C., on July 31, 1998, Jake, as he was affectionately known, left us far too soon on December 18, 2023.
The son of Ashley Lynn Agapion and Brendan Robert Magee, Jake graduated in 2017 from Charleston School Of The Arts. He was an accomplished musician and a former violinist of the Irish fiddle group Na Fidléirí where he shared his love for music performing throughout the Lowcountry. With his music group, Jake was given the opportunity to tour Ireland and later returned with his father, grandfather, and cousins for one of his most memorable trips.
During his studies at Liberty University, Jake discovered a new passion for videography and program production. Jake founded his own business, One Life Production, and working as a freelancer attended many events around the United States. He especially loved his times working games for the Carolina Panthers, the Carolina Hurricanes, and Duke University Basketball. Some of his favorite events included the PGA Championship, World’s Strongest Man, and of course the Super Bowl.
Jake enjoyed his time on the water. He was an avid water sports enthusiast and spent many mornings on the boat with his father and never failed to outperform his sister with every ride, but especially on the wakeboard. He even had a passion for scuba diving, becoming a PADI certified diver. He enjoyed travel, especially his trips to Greece with his mother and family, where he always adapted to the lifestyle and felt most relaxed and at home.
Jake was kind hearted and shared a deep love for people. He always touched others as a sweet and caring soul and dedicated his time volunteering through AmeriCorps FEMA through which he traveled to many destinations, but enjoyed his summer in Puerto Rico the best.
Above all else, the most important thing to Jake was his relationship with his family and spending time with them. He particularly liked family poker night and winning was always a bonus. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin and was adored by his youngest cousin, Lily.
He will be deeply missed by his parents, sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, who will cherish their memories with him and carry their love for him in their hearts.
He is survived by his loving parents, Ashley Lynn Agapion and Brendan Robert Magee; his sister, Aliki Ashley Magee; his grandparents Jack Magee and Diana and Paul Sweeney; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his grandparents Alice and Stephen Agapion.
The funeral for Jake will take place on Saturday, December 23 at 2 pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Race Street, Charleston, S.C. The graveside service will be on Wednesday, December 27 at 2 pm at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Avenue, Raleigh, N.C., where he will be buried alongside his maternal grandparents.
