John Kane Bledsoe, 86, of Charleston, SC, a retired ad director and husband of Gladys Elmore Bledsoe, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018.
He was born on November 16, 1931 in Charleston, SC, son of the late Eugenia Pierce Bledsoe and the late Ira Bledsoe.
John worked as a graphic designer at WCSC TV during the company’s first days on the air. He served as art director at Piggly Wiggly, Service Merchandise in Nashville, TN, Sam Solomon in Charleston, SC and JFG Coffee in Knoxville, TN. John managed a TV station in Nashville, TN and played Santa Clause for several years at WCSC TV. He was a member of the Ad Club, Charleston Rotary Club, St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church and the St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Men. In addition to Gladys, his loving wife of 21 years,
John is survived by: 3 daughters: Lisa Parr-Smith (Bill) of West Bloomfield, MI; Keri Blocker of Charleston, SC; and Tracie Collins (Billy) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; step-children: David McLeod (Margaret) of Tryon, NC and Susan McLeod Epstein (David) of Charleston; grandchildren: Matthew Parr (Vanessa) of Bloomfield Hills, MI; Meghan Parr (Neil) of Westland, MI; Riddick Blocker of Charleston, SC; Kathryn Blocker of Charlotte, NC; Hunter Bledsoe (Stacy) of Charleston, SC; Tyler Collins of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Sarah Collins of Mt. Pleasant, SC; 2 great grandchildren; step-grandchildren: Theresa McLeod Vaughn (Richard) of Powdersville, SC; Amy McLeod Degarady (Kyle) of Goose Creek, SC: Rebecca Epstein (Jackie) of Charleston, SC; Robert M. Epstein of Charleston, SC; Andrea Willems of Denver, CO; Brandy Livingston of North Charleston, SC; 9 step-great grandchildren; and brothers Roger Bledsoe of Simpsonville, SC and Dr. Francis Bledsoe (Mitzi) of Greenville, SC. John is pre-deceased by his son, John K. Bledsoe, Jr and brothers, Dr. Jack Kane and Ira Bledsoe.
The family will receive friends at St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 1:00PM until 2:00PM. A memorial service will follow immediately. The church is located at 3225 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC 29414.
