John Joseph Palmerton III, Goose Creek, SC
It is with heartbreaking sadness we announce that John Palmerton (formerly of Putnam Valley, NY) passed away on November 17th, 2021, with family by his side, after fighting a long, brave battle with kidney disease.
John leaves behind his beloved wife of 43 years, Susan; his children, Jenn (Mike Pfisterer) and John (Michelle) Palmerton; his "Little Ladies," granddaughters Sylvia & Lila; his favorite sister and best friend, Judy Palmerton; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father John J. Palmerton II, many beloved fur babies, and close friends.
John was born in Yonkers, NY on April 11th, 1952, and graduated from Gorton High School in 1970. Best known for his sense of humor, John was a constant joker (sometimes troublemaker), always making people laugh. He often reminisced about his crazy times with the gang on Odell Avenue.
John and Susan met as neighbors in their apartment building. Susan proposed to him and they were married August 26, 1978. A devoted provider to his growing family, he once sat on a bank line for three days and nights to obtain a mortgage application for their first home.
A self-starter, determined and hard-working, John owned and operated a successful plumbing business for 30 years. He would help anyone whenever he could: even middle-of-the-night plumbing emergencies or if someone was without heat during a winter storm. He had an amazing eye for detail and passed on his strong work ethic, technical knowledge and skills to his children.
He loved classic cars (especially his '55 Chevy), attending car shows, classic rock music and most of all spending time with his family. John could start up a conversation with anyone anywhere and instantly make a friend. He was extremely proud of his children and granddaughters and they all kept him going while he fought his illness. Susan never left his side over the last four years as his caregiver, for which he was eternally grateful.
In honor of John, please sign the back of your driver's license and register to become an organ donor.
A celebration of his life will be planned for April 2022 in the Charleston, SC area.
As he often said to his children, "This is what it's all about. Enjoy it. It goes fast."
Shine on, you crazy diamond. We love you forever.
