John Arthur “Jack†Achenbach, 93, of Goose Creek, died Monday, September 19, 2016. Born in Jamaica, New York to the late John and Dorothy Achenbach and husband to the late Rita Achenbach. A United States Navy Veteran, Jack served our country for over 20 years, touring during World War II and the Korean Conflict. During his military service, he married the love of his life, Rita. In 1952, he retired from the Navy and commenced a civil service job at the Naval Air Rework Facility (NARF) in Jacksonville, FL. After his civilian retirement in 1975, he and Rita were able to spend a lot of time travelling in their R.V. He was an avid reader on current events, U.S. History, and historical fiction. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, however maintained his active membership at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville, FL. Rita and Jack were fortunate during their 60 years of marriage, to have generous time to spend with family, friends and see the world. Survivors include his daughters Re and her husband Ted of Goose Creek and Jackie Achenbach Schoolcraft of Jacksonville, FL; his only granddaughter, Heather-Marie Brooks Platzer and her husband James of Daniel Island. Jack is predeceased by his wife and son-in-law, Richard Schoolcraft. The Rosary will be held, Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 5:00 pm, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Goose Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately after the Rosary until 7:00 pm. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 24, 2016, at 11:00 am in Jacksonville Memory Gardens, Orange Park, FL.
